Homebuyers are being increasingly influenced by the parking facilities offered by a property, with many prepared to pay extra for space to park their car, a new study has found.

With three quarters of UK households now owning at least one car, 68 per cent of the people polled by the Halifax stated that they would be happy to pay more for a designated parking space or driveway.

Of those, one third would be willing to pay less than £2,000 for parking space, 28 per cent would pay between £2,000 and £5,000 while 11 per cent would be prepared to fork out up to £10,000.

Commenting on the findings, Colin Kemp, managing director of Halifax Estate Agents, said: "Our research shows that access to private parking facilities is highly desirable when searching for property."

Earlier this month, the South West of England Regional Development Agency reported that consumers are willing to pay tens of thousands of pounds more for a home by the sea, with the towns of Padstow, Lyme Regis and Fowey having all experienced a boom in property prices over recent years.
