Nicholas Cage is set to become the latest Hollywood star to set up home in the UK after he completed the purchase of an 18th century castle near to Bath for £5 million.

According to the estate agents report, Midford Castle is set in nearly 60 acres of woods and rolling parkland, making it ideal for the publicity-shy Cage and his family.

For his money, the actor gets a stunning set of turrets and battlements in addition to a ruined chapel, though it is the castle's location on the doorstep of the Cotswolds that persuaded him to put in an offer.

The London-based estate agents who took care of the deal finally managed to negotiate a price of £4.75 million, around £250,000 less than the initial asking price, with the actor expected to take possession of the property at the end of August.

The Briggs family who sold the castle, originally purchased it for £15,000 in 1961 and have told the Independent that Cage has no plans for a 'Hollywood-style' makeover for the 'fantasy-like' property.

Just last year, the actor Johnny Depp was rumoured to have been looking to purchase a property in the West of England, with a regency home near to Timsbury allegedly having taken his fancy in addition to the Georgian townhouses of Bath.
