Despite the daughter of the home's owners being in the kitchen at the time, the thieves got in through a window and got away with a £2,000 painting of a horse, Essex Police have confirmed.
The wife of the couple stated: "It is definitely connected with it being on Location, Location, Location."
Currently, the south-east is the second-most expensive region in the UK for homebuyers, beaten only by London.
According to recent predictions from the National Housing Federation, the average cost of a home in the area could reach almost £500,000 by 2012.
