Britons now moving house more than ever

Britons are moving house more than ever before, a new survey has found.

The average adult now occupies a house for as little as 17 months before looking for somewhere new, according to the study of 2,000 people carried out by the website buyproperty4less.co.uk.

While the average person has been in their current home for more than seven-and-a-half years, they have previously occupied three rented homes and owned five properties.

Nearly half of those people questioned cited moving in with a partner as the reason behind moving house, while relocating for a new job was the second-most common reason for a move.

In addition, other reasons leading adults to pack up and move include wanting a bigger garden, downsizing, rising rental costs, while seven per cent of people move because they don't get on with their neighbours.

Earlier this summer, the home-moving firm Moveme.com reported that the average Briton spends ten days packing and unpacking their belongings either side of the actual home-move itself.
