Homeowners happy to lose a bedroom to avoid Hips

Homeowners would be more willing to 're-label' their property's features in order to avoid Home Information Packs (Hips) than estate agents would be, a new study has found.
With the Hips scheme due to grow to include three-bedroom properties on September 10th, the survey by Abbey Mortgages found that 4.5 million homeowners would be willing to put their home on the market with one less bedroom.
Of those who would be happy to take such a step to avoid paying for the packs, 82 per cent would call the extra bedroom a study, while playrooms and games rooms are also seen as attractive alternatives.
However, Mike Ockenden from the Association of Home Information Pack Providers recently claimed that a majority of estate agents would be unwilling to compromise their professional integrity by taking part in such efforts to get around legislation and exploit loopholes.
