Lottery winners still priced-out of London market

Despite having scooped a record lottery jackpot of £35 million, Angela Kelly would still find it hard to purchase one of the new-breed of London homes for the super-rich, estate agents in the city have said.

Top of the market is Witanhurst in Highgate, north London which, as well as being famous for being the former home of BBC's Fame Academy talent show is also the second-largest residential home in the city after Buckingham Palace.

The 25-bedroom house, which also comes with eight reception rooms and eight bathrooms, is currently on the market for £150 million, making it well out of the reach of Ms Kelly.

In addition, the estate agents looking after the record sale told the BBC that it "is in such bad repair that Ms Kelly wouldn't have been able to afford to do it up, neither could she afford the cost of the stamp duty and solicitor's fees".

According to the latest House Price Index from the Financial Times, the cost of an average London property grew by 15.2 per cent over the past year, far out-stripping the average national rate of growth.
