Green space provides ''huge benefits'' for urban properties

Access to green space is becoming increasingly important for homebuyers, experts have stated.

With climate change leading to increasingly warmer weather across the UK, properties near to urban green space and parks, such as the newly-regenerated apartments overlooking Queen''s Square in Bristol will command higher prices, according to Greenspace.

A recent study undertaken by the charity found that 83 per cent of the people questioned believed that parks and gardens are a focal point for communities, with 68 per cent of the children questioned regularly visiting them with friends.

"The generation of economic benefit is not the primary reason for the provision of urban green space," said Greenspace''s chief executive Paul Bramhill.

"Parks, gardens and squares are places of relaxation, recreation, refreshment and relief; but these are qualities that are in short supply in our towns and cities, and things that are in short supply are valued."

The comments come soon after a survey conducted by Halifax Estate Agents revealed that 78 per cent of Britons would be willing to pay more for a property with a garden, with many happy to part with an extra £10,000 for the privilege.
