Moroccan property ''has advantages'' for careful buyers

Buying a property in Morocco can be a good investment but experts have warned that people should ensure they take expert legal advice when making a purchase.

While homes in Morocco are reportedly popular among celebrities such as Chelsea footballer John Terry and fashion designer John Paul Gaultier, the marketing director of real estate firm Moroccan Sands, Michael Kent, says it is important for buyers to be aware of Moroccan property laws.

He warned that some sellers have been known to sell "touristic land", which by law must be made available for rental purposes, without informing buyers of its special status. However, he points out that these properties can be a good investment.

"There are advantages if you buy one of those - you are putting yourself into a management scheme with quite a lot of backing behind it and you will get a steady stream of rental clients," he added.

Morrocco is currently developing its tourist industry and hopes to be attracting 10 million tourists a year to the country by 2010, providing a large number of potential renters for those who own property there.ADNFCR-1143-ID-18277125-ADNFCR
