The chairman of a solicitors'' property centre in Aberdeen has criticised estate agents which he claims exploit the fixed price system.
John MacRae, chairman of the Aberdeen Solicitors'' Property Centre, told the Aberdeen Evening Express that some agents are luring buyers towards a property with the promise it will go at a certain price but then accepting higher bids and setting up a closing date for interested parties to place an offer.
"Fixed pricing is sometimes used by certain sections of agents as a device and not in the way it is intended. If that sounds like a criticism of some of my members, it''s intended to be," the paper quoted him as saying.
Mr MacRae added: "I think it''s very bad if my members are doing that, hoping that it will fix a closing date."
Earlier this month, the member of Scottish Parliament for the west of Scotland, Dr Bill Wilson, suggested a fixed-price bid system could be introduced in order to make the process of buying a home fairer.
