Agents offer advice to sellers

Two estate agency professionals have advised consumers what they should look out for in order to ensure they choose the best agent to market their property.

Chris Wood, the vice president of the National Association of Estate Agents told the Daily Telegraph that the public should not be taken in by crafty firms who slash their fees in order to attract clients.

"Poor agents often start lowering fees and may also be tempted to recommend low offers," he argued.

Peter Rollings of Marsh & Parsons highlighted the service experienced agents who understand the local market can give to sellers, especially in times where economic uncertainty make it harder to secure a sale.

"Instead of 20 would-be buyers there may be just one now so a local agent stands a better chance than a bigger one of knowing who that person is," he told the newspaper.

Mr Rollings added that it is "vital" that people make sure their agent actively pursues buyers.

Sellers who are unhappy with the quality of service they receive from an agent signed up to the Ombudsman for Estate Agents scheme can pursue the matter with them and possibly get compensation.ADNFCR-1143-ID-18310019-ADNFCR
