Agents ''want halt to Hips''

The majority of estate agents would like home information packs (Hips) to be scrapped but want energy performance certificates (EPCs) to be rolled out to all properties across the country, a new survey has revealed.

According to the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA), 76 per cent of agents think that retaining EPCs is a good idea but believe that Hips are unnecessary, with only six per cent of the organisation''s members calling for the scheme to be extended to cover all properties.

Peter Bolton King, chief executive of the NAEA, said: "Despite the fact that agents have now had an opportunity to work with Hips it is clear that the vast majority of respondents do not believe that they add value to the process and are finding it hard to get purchasers to take interest in them."

Agents also claimed that there had been an 83 per cent fall in the number of homeowners asking them for appraisals in October when compared with the same time the previous year.

In recent weeks there has been fierce debate over the future of the scheme, with estate agency Spicerhaart describing it as an "complete waste of time" and claiming that only ten per cent of buyers look at the documents contained in the pack.ADNFCR-1143-ID-18348192-ADNFCR
