Almost three in every ten home movers say that the proximity of a property to their loved ones is a big factor when deciding where to buy, a new survey has revealed.

According to Alliance & Leicester Mortgages, 29 per cent of the 2,090 people it questioned said that living close to family and friends is key to their choice, with 36 per cent of parents admitting that is an important factor to them.

Stephen Leonard, director of mortgages at Alliance & Leicester, said that the findings are "interesting", adding: "Although there are many factors to consider when moving home, such as easy access to transport, work and good schools, being close to family and friends is a key factor for many when looking to purchase a home for many buyers."

The firm also revealed that six per cent of people would be interested in purchasing the home they grew up in from their parents, while four per cent already own it after buying or inheriting.

Research released by the Halifax earlier this year revealed that 30 per cent of people would like their ideal home to be situated in the countryside, with 25 per cent confessing that they would prefer life by the seaside.ADNFCR-1143-ID-18379378-ADNFCR
