Chain collapse risk ''worries people''

The threat of a chain collapsing is a big worry for many homeowners, according to new research.

Property purchasing company A Quick Sale revealed that 46 per cent of those it polled said that the unravelling of a deal was a major concern, with 35 per cent admitting that the risk of being left short-changed after forking out for surveys and solicitors fees made them anxious.

Richard Watters, managing director of the firm, said: "The housing chain is uncertain and unpredictable, and can often leave you unsure of when your move will happen, or whether it will ever happen at all.

"Concern about the process running smoothly can reach fever pitch, especially with the added financial pressure that can be exerted when a chain breaks," he added.

The survey also revealed that women are more likely than men to find selling up stressful, with 65 per cent of them confessing it is a difficult experience compared to 53 per cent of men.

Earlier this month, the County Homesearch Company warned that climbing cost of moving home may deter some people from buying and selling, adding that this could cause problems for those involved in chains.ADNFCR-1143-ID-18388581-ADNFCR
