Full Hips roll-out due on Friday

The Department of Communities and Local Government (CLG) has highlighted the need for those involved in the property market to remember key elements of the home information pack (Hip) scheme as the packs roll-out to cover all residential homes in the England and Wales on Friday.

Currently, first day marketing provisions mean that a property can be put on the market without a Hip as long as one has been commissioned and is expected to arrive quickly.

Although this rule was due to be abolished on January 1st, the government has announced that estate agents will still be able to market a home even if a Hip is not in place until June 1st 2008.

CLG also said that homes that were placed on the market before the Hips scheme was rolled out to cover their class of property will continue to be exempt from having to commission a pack, commenting that it had not yet set a date to end this allowance.

It also reminded people that the lease document must be included in all packs, no matter when the Hip was commissioned, but said that other leasehold papers can be omitted.ADNFCR-1143-ID-18392061-ADNFCR
