Savills: London ''super suburbs'' attract buyers
Wed 19th Dec, 17:10:18 GMT
London suburbs are the most popular place to live among householders, research from high-end estate agency Savills has suggested.
The firm said that 60 per cent of people find the prospect of living in suburbia attractive, with factors such as being close to good schools and a safe environment being two of the big draws.
With people working in the City and property developers both keen to snap up properties in these desirable locations, Savills said that the average home in the top 25 suburbs is valued at £540,000.
Lucian Cook, director of research at the firm, said: "Although prime London is readily associated with the central areas including Kensington, Knightsbridge and Belgravia and the inner south west suburbs of Richmond and Fulham, the desirability of suburban life and the post war encroachment of suburbia, has resulted in the emergence of the super suburb."
According to the Halifax, areas such as Kingston upon Thames and Redbridge have seen substantial price growth, with the average cost of a home in the boroughs costing £358,293 and £299,640 respectively.
