Agents: Demand still there for luxury Edinburgh homes

High-end properties in Edinburgh are continuing to be in demand among buyers keen to own a home in the city, estate agents have said.
Earlier this month, Halifax named Scotland as the best performing housing market in the UK, with prices in Edinburgh alone climbing by 13 per cent between 2006 and 2007.
Speaking to the Edinburgh Evening News, Strutt & Parker negotiator Maurice Allan said that luxury properties worth more than £1 million are doing particularly well.
"There are fewer properties that come on to the market, and demand for those continues to be high. When the right properties come on there tends to be very strong competition
"We are much busier now than we were 12 months ago or even 24 months ago."
Tony Perriam, a director at Rettie & Co, added that the credit crunch and recent economic uncertainty does not appeared to have had a negative impact on this sector of the market, commenting: "Those buying family homes above £1 million have been largely unaffected by all that has been happening."
