Retirement property market going strong

It has been suggested that the UK retirement property market has remained resilient despite turmoil elsewhere.
According to Linden Homes, properties intended for retirees have sold much more quickly than other developments.
The firm has houses which can only be bought by people aged 65 or over and these sold extremely well in January.
It appears that retirees are less affected by the wider property market than other buyers and Paul Cooper from Linden Homes South East explained why.
"Retirement homes are clearly resilient to any market turbulence. When someone opts to downsize or move into a retirement community it is usually a lifestyle decision and not dictated by whats happening in the market," said the managing director.
"These buyers have often reached the top of the property ladder, can be mortgage-free and therefore typically have a comfortable amount of equity in their home," he added.
Assetz recently revealed that house prices increased by 0.7 per cent between January and February.
