Over half of young people would like to own their first property before reaching the big 3-0, according to research by Alliance & Leicester.
It was shown that 57 per cent of 18-29-year-olds hope to own their own home, while 49 per cent want to get married and 42 per cent want their first child in their twenties.
Richard Taylor, head of mortgage products at the bank, commented: "With all these goals being set by people in their twenties, it is increasingly important for those thinking about buying their first property to save for a deposit."
Katie Tucker, of mortgage experts John Charcol, agreed with Mr Taylor in a recent report - saying that while it is still worth seeking out the best available deals, first-time buyers should be aware that they need to save a ten per cent deposit as a matter of course.
Ms Tucker added that it was importance to check the affordability of any deal but then move quickly, as many deals had a short availability.
