Value added to property with a good garden
Wed 30th Apr, 12:00:32 BST
There is "no doubt" that a garden adds to the value of a property and a particularly impressive one can add greater value.
That is according to gardening expert and presenter of BBC''s Gardener''s World Joe Swift.
He said that homeowners should work on their gardens if they want to boost the value of their properties.
However, he issued a word of warning against doing anything too outlandish.
"Gardens add value - there''s no doubt about this, there''s been a lot of research into this over the years - and more value than the investment that''s gone into the property," said Mr Swift.
"Things like ponds are a bit dodgy; they can put buyers off because they think they''ll have to maintain the pond and the fish might die.
"Try and keep it quite simple, quite classic," he added.
Mr Swift also said that homeowners with paving in their gardens should use large pot plants to "give some real impact".
