New buyers given govt boost

First-time buyers have been given a boost by the news that the government''s Homebuy programme has been expanded.

Housing minister Caroline Flint has revealed that all first-time buyers with a household income of £60,000 or less will be able to get onto the scheme.

It means that they will be able to buy a share in a house and take the first step onto the property ladder.

Revealing the extension of the programme, Ms Flint said that she hopes many new buyers will benefit.

"Most families aspire to get onto the housing ladder, but are being priced out of the market. We want to give them the support to help them buy an affordable home," she explained.

"The long term solution to the challenge of affordability is to build more homes.

"But in the meantime, we are doing more by giving more first time buyers the chance to boost their purchasing power and put their dream home within reach," added Ms Flint.ADNFCR-1143-ID-18595978-ADNFCR
