£35,000 extra for prime location

New research from Halifax Estate Agents shows people are willing to pay £35,000 extra to live near the countryside.

According to the firm, almost one in four people list proximity to the countryside as the most important factor to consider when buying a house.

Some 17 per cent said living near to where they work was worth an extra £20,024 and good transport links could add £13,661 to the value of a property.

Gordon Edwards, managing director for Halifax Estate Agents, said: "Location and lifestyle factors are essential in the home buying decision process."

"Although other factors such as budget, property specification and availability play an important part, most people begin their search for a home by looking at geographic location first."

Meanwhile, 2.3 million Brits own a property abroad and, according to new research by Cater Allen Private Bank, that number is likely to increase by more than three million in the next two years.
