An estate agent specialising in property sales on the Welsh border is set to auction off King Arthur''s wedding venue, it has been reported.

Knucklas Castle, which lies in ruins, is said to have been the venue for King Arthur and wife Guinevere''s holy matrimony, according to the Hereford Times.

McCartneys estate agency in Knighton said buyers are being given the opportunity to pick up a "slice of history", the news provider states.

Jenny Layton, auctioneer for McCartneys, said: "You don’t get many castle ruins for sale on the open market – especially ones with such historic importance."

"This is a rare opportunity to purchase a really unusual site with breathtaking views," she added.

Building work on Knucklas Castle is believed to have started around 1240 and the fort was part of Norman knight Ralph Mortimer''s plan to tighten his grip on the area, according to historian Paul Remfry.

Construction was overseen by his 11-year-old son Roger Mortimer while his father was out of the country, he said.
