A guide to living in a few of London's boroughs

London is one of the world’s most diverse and exciting cities. For these reasons, a great many people make the decision to move to the country’s capital city each year. While London’s boroughs offer residents the opportunity to tailor living in the city to their own lifestyles, they can make moving to London - or even within London - a confusing experience. Here, we take a look at a few of London’s boroughs and regions, shedding a little light on why somebody might want to live there.
Camden Town
Camden is one of the most unique parts of inner London. With its bustling markets and famous lock and canal, Camden makes a great day out as well as a nuanced place to live. Camden is known as a relatively young part of London but the diversity of people there is genuinely astonishing. The music scene is what the borough is particularly famous for - with a number of the UK’s biggest acts having originated in Camden’s pubs. For the adventurous type, Camden has a lot to offer so if you like things quiet, it probably isn’t the London borough for you.
Shoreditch
Shoreditch is one of the trendiest parts of London today. Brick Lane has been a popular part of town for some years, as has the local Spitalfields Market but recently Shoreditch itself has become etched onto the map of places to be in London. Though a place for the young generation, Shoreditch is a million miles from Camden and if you replace the tartan trousers and leather jackets for skinny jeans, thick rimmed glasses and unkempt beards you’ll have a picture of Shoreditch High Street.
Wimbledon
Wimbledon is a world away from both Shoreditch and Camden. Probably best known for hosting the annual tennis championship in July, Wimbledon is a quiet and leafy suburb of the capital. Despite its upmarket housing and wealth of open space, you can expect house prices to be slightly lower than in the city centre. Needless to say, Wimbledon has a great many links to the centre and is a great place for commuters to get some well-earned rest.
Mayfair
This is an area of London which lives up to its reputation as written by the history of Monopoly. Mayfair is one of the most expensive places to live in London. Along with the prestige of living in Monopoly’s most exclusive region, residents can expect a many good schools, very safe house prices and plenty of open spaces to enjoy.
Property in London tends to be expensive but, dependent on where you hope to live, you can expect to see a great range of properties spanning most budgets. One of London’s most attractive features is its public transport system. This means that, no matter where you are in London, you are never too far from anywhere else. This allows commuters to live in the area they love, rather than having to worry about being across the road from the office.
