Green home improvements ''increase property value''

Investing in green home improvements can help boost the value of a property and help sellers maximise their profits, a home improvement trade body has advised.
With a survey from the Halifax discovering that 63 per cent of Brits expressed a desire to live in a home which has environmentally friendly features, Andrew Leach, technical consultant for the National Home Improvement Council, argued making changes to a home could be worthwhile.
"There will be a time not too far away that estate agents will have a list of houses on their books which are energy efficient; the worst at the bottom, the best at the top," he said, pointing out that "if your house is at the bottom or even the middle then nobody''s going to look at your property."
Mr Leach suggested that adding solar panels or wind turbines to a property could add to its value and pointed out that installing insulation could have benefits beyond reducing energy bills.
"Insulation has probably the best payback factor of all, because you not only save on the energy it helps you save, but you also increase the value [of the property]," he said.
