New Eurostar link boosts French property
Thu 8th Nov, 14:27:54 GMT
The upcoming launch of the new Eurostar service from St Pancras International in London to the continent is encouraging more people to consider buying property in France, it has been claimed.
According to figures on ''global property hotspots'' produced by currency exchange firm HiFX, France has overtaken Spain as the country people are most interested in, with 28 per cent of all enquiries the firm received requesting information about the country.
Mark Bodega, director at the firm, said: "France has always been a popular holiday home destination for Brits who enjoy the more relaxed French way of life."
"However, it is now increasingly feasible for buyers to have the best of both worlds, living permanently in what was a holiday home and commuting back to the UK when necessary," he added.
From November 14th, it will be possible to travel between London and Paris in two and a quarter hours, while the journey time between London and Lille will be slashed to an hour and 20 minutes.
Peter Wheelton, a property expert from VEF Pas de Calais, commented that there had already been an increase in the number of people spending a few days each week in London but making their French property their base.
