Bellamy to swap Welsh manor for London home

Wed 29th Aug, 17:02:55 BST

West Ham and Wales striker Craig Bellamy is putting his country manor up for sale in order to move his family to London, his neighbours have claimed.

The 27-year-old player bought the five-bedroom property in the village of St-Brides-Super-Ely, near to Cardiff, for around £2 million just a year ago as a wedding present for his wife, Claire.

However, since then he has moved to the East London club and is believed to be unhappy commuting every week from Wales to the capital and now wants to spend more time with his wife and two young children.

The house, called Sant y Nyll was built under the direction of the architect Sir Percy Thomas in 1924 and is set within its own grounds complete with a tree-lined drive, extensive gardens, a grass tennis court and a huge conservatory.

The property also boasts impressive views over the Vale of Glamorgan.

While Bellamy has yet to go public with the move and the estate agents in charge of the sale, Adobe in Cardiff, are marketing it through their "discreet sales department", villagers in St Brides-Super-Ely have no doubt that their most famous resident is making the move.

"Everyone’s talking about the house sale, but we’ll miss him," one local told the Wales on Sunday newspaper.

The news comes soon after fellow footballer Robbie Fowler declined to move to Wales from the north-west despite having recently signed for Cardiff City.
