Cardiff sellers ''could struggle''

An estate agent in Cardiff has warned that the housing market in the city could be about to hit a bumpy patch.

The city has seen a growth in popularity over the last few years as stylish developments have gone up across the area, attracting wealthy buyers.

However, Michael Jones, who runs Michael Jones and Co estate agents and is the former president of the National Association of Estate Agents, told icwales.co.uk that this trend now risked making it harder to sell properties in the city.

"In areas where there has been mass development, like Cardiff Bay, sellers will be struggling because there really are just too many flats.

"Speculators have bought them and they are now having trouble selling them, so they put them on the rental market, which becomes saturated," he said.

Mr Jones argued that this meant that owners would have to let their properties to "less desirable" tenants which could cause long-term damage to the area''s reputation and make it even harder to sell.

Last week, Nationwide said that although Cardiff had seen 200 per cent price growth in the last ten years, growth between July and September this year had fallen by one per cent from the previous three months.ADNFCR-1143-ID-18308284-ADNFCR
