FTBs ''in a good position''

First-time buyers have a good chance of being able to find the right property for them as the housing market becomes less frantic, it has been suggested.

According to the Halifax, house price growth continued to slow in October, with more buyers opting not to jump into the market amid ongoing turmoil on world financial markets.

Andy Smith, managing director of 1st Property Investment, said that while some people have been spooked by the recent credit worries, first-time time buyers are "in a very strong position to go and buy something".

"First time buyers are going to get more of a selection now than they would ever normally have," he argued, adding the cooling market gives buyers "more time to think".

"There are more deals to be struck now than there have been at any time in the last three or four years."

Mr Smith added that "there are always ways of getting on the housing ladder if you want to," but warned that those who are inflexible on location may find it hard to find what they are looking for.ADNFCR-1143-ID-18358682-ADNFCR
