Buy-to-let property investors and tenants are benefiting from the introduction of Tenancy Deposit Protection (TDP).
TDP was introduced for landlords with assured short-hold tenancies in England and Wales in April 2007.
The National Landlords Association (NLA) claims that it has been a success since its launch and believes that both landlord and tenants are reaping the rewards.
Simon Gordon, spokesman at the NLA, pointed out that the scheme has helped to improve relations.
"We would say that TDP has been a success. TDP has led to an improvement in landlord-tenant relations as one of the potential bones of contention is open to resolution," he commented.
"We do believe that it has clarified the situation and made things clearer for landlord and tenant," added Mr Gordon.
The NLA sponsors TDP scheme Mydeposits which protected around 200,000 deposits in the first year, with just 341 being disputed.
